Abstract

Abstract : The Action Classroom Research is an attempt to improve the Seventh A Class students? skills in expressing Simple Descriptive Monologue at SMP Negeri 1 Air Kumbang, Banyuasin. This study used three cycleswith ICARE System through five stepswhich are Introduce, Connect, Apply, Reflect, and Extend. The data were taken from observation and questionnaire for qualitative data and individual assessment report for quantitative data. Finally, it was found that ICARE system could (1) improve the students? skill in expressing simple descriptive monologue, (2) improve the students spoken English with correct pronunciation, and (3) Improve the students? courage in expressing simple descriptive monologue.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to find out if the novel entitled The Chronicles of Narnia (Prince Caspian) by C. S. Lewis is the allegory base on Christian belief and the meaning of allegory found is stated on the Bible. The method used in writing this thesis is descriptive analysis method. The findings of this thesis is there are eight (8) characters taken and analyzed that had allegories and meaning of allegories out of 41 characters in the novel. From 8 characters taken and analyzed, there are 18 allegories found. 4 allegories from Caspian, 1 from Peter, 2 from Susan, 2 from Edmund, 4 from Lucy, 3 from Aslan, 1 from Trufflehunter and 1 from the Trees. The conclusion of this thesis is the all allegories found are as representation of characters and events base on Christian belief and the meaning of allegories found are stated on the Bible.

Abstract

Abstract:This research analyzed characters in the movie Alice Through The Looking Glass by using Vladimir Propp?s theory especially in seven spheres of action and thirty-one narrative functions. To conduct this research, the researcher used descriptive method. To analyze the data, the researcher classified the characters into seven spheres of action and classified the sequence into thirty-one narrative functions. The results of this research showed that there were six spheres of action that the researcher found there were villain, donor, helper, princess, dispatcher, and hero and seventeen narrative functions which appeared in the movie Alice Through The Looking Glass which were absentation, mediation, interdiction, beginning counteraction, departure, violation, reconnaissance, provision of magical agent, guidance, unrecognized arrival, transfiguration, villainy, victory, punishment liquidation of lack, return, and wedding.

Abstract

Abstract :Oral literature is one of the most important part in the existence of regional literature, including the province of South Sumatra. However, this type of literature began to be less enjoyed because it is considered outdated and not in accordance with the tastes of today's society. Not surprisingly, the number of its lovers began to decrease and leaving only the old people. This research highlights about oral literature Berejung owned by Besemah tribe of Pagaralam, South Sumatera which experienced the same thing. The aim is to see the dynamics of change or transition of the oral literature Berejung from the first to present form of presentation. Sources of data were obtained by using direct observation methods and interviews with related parties, such as speakers and art activists. The results of field research indicate that oral literature Berejung has undergone several transitions from spoken directly through the mouth, followed by the lute and the sole guitar and the last in a musical orchestra.

Abstract

Abstract: The objectives of this research were to find out the positive politeness strategy and factors influencing in the major characters? utterances. To conduct this research, the researcher used the descriptive method. To analyze the data, the researcher classified fifteen positive politeness strategies and factors influencing the use of positive politeness strategy in the utterances. The result of the study shows that there were 12 positive politeness strategies in the major characters? utterances. Then, Three strategies were not found in the utterances. Namely Joke; Give (or ask for) reasons; Assume or assert reciprocity. The influencing factors found in the film there were 15 payoffs, 16 social distances, 5 the sizes of imposition and 2 relative powers. The utterances of four major characters that indicate positive politeness strategies. They were: Oz, Theodora, Evanora, and Finley.
